Randy E. Robertson

 

     Mr. Randy E. Robertson has been City Manager, of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee since 24 September 2008.  He comes to this position from serving as City Manager of Ashland, Kentucky, eastern Kentucky's largest city.  Prior to that he served nearly thirty years with the United States Army as an officer and senior civil servant.   

     Mr. Robertson's assignments include Washington D.C.; Walter Reed Army Medical Center; Fort Meade, Maryland; Fort Gordon, Georgia; Fort Harrison, Indiana; Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania; White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico; the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (Mons, Belgium) and the 5th Signal Command, located in Mannheim, Germany.  After his military retirement he immediately assumed duties as Department of the Army Civil Servant, reaching GS-15, the highest civilian grade in the federal sector's "General Schedule" system.  Career highlights include personal staff to the Chief of Staff, Supreme Allied Command in Europe, senior assignments with the Army's Personnel Command, and the youngest installation Director of Personnel for the Army's Training and Doctrine Command.  He was the first federal civil servant appointed Chief of Staff of two major Army organizations, the 2d Signal Brigade, U.S. Army Europe, and the Department of Defense's largest installation, White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico.   He received the Legion of Merit for his military service and two awards of the Army's Sustained Superior Civilian Award. 

     Mr. Robertson holds a Bachelor's of Arts Degree from Western Kentucky University, with a Master's in Public Service from Western, a Master's of Science in Strategic Studies from the Army War College, and a Master's of Science in Urban Planning from The Johns Hopkins University.  He holds two Certificates of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) – the first in Education from Boston University and the other in Healthcare Administration from Central Michigan University.  Mr. Robertson is also a graduate of Syracuse University's Advanced Resource Manager's Program and was selected as a Harvard University Senior Executive Fellow in 2003.  He recently completed the International City Manager's Association Senior Executive Institute at the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business.  He has held Adjunct Faculty with several colleges and universities in the United States and Europe.

     Randy's wife is Darlene, originally of Jefferstown, Kentucky.  Darlene is also a former federal civil servant and a retired Lieutenant Colonel with the United States Army.  They have two adult sons, Courtney and Tyler who both reside in Washington, D.C.
